Emperor Foods Manufacturing

The Launch of a Market-Leading Enterprise Development Programme in the South African Food Industry

As part of an exciting new enterprise development initiative Emperor Foods, a Midrand-based food manufacturer that specialises in the creation and supply of quality function and cocktail event foods, three-course ready-made dishes and meal components, as well as a full range of gourmet Halaal catering, has entered into a strategic business partnership with a new South African black female majority-owned company.

In line with its total and unqualified commitment to transformation and black economic empowerment – that has seen the company attain Level 1 broad-based black economic empowerment (B-BBEE) status in its own right – Emperor Foods is supporting the formation and launch of Emperor Foods Manufacturing (Pty) Ltd (EFM).

EFM is based on a carefully-conceived business strategy that was jointly developed by Jo-Ann Buyeye (48), who holds a 51% majority interest in the new entity, and Jan Porter, the founder and owner of Emperor Foods.

In direct support of Jo-Ann Buyeye’s business objectives and growth aspirations, Emperor Foods has agreed to incorporate its highly-respected name into the name of the new company. Emperor Foods has been widely acclaimed for unsurpassed quality and reliability and trusted by blue-chip clients for almost two decades.

Based on a legally-binding commercial agreement and backed by a commitment to provide the new company with unrestricted access to its full range of catering products and services, Emperor Foods Manufacturing is fully certified to market, promote and supply the Emperor Foods range of products and services to clients throughout the South African economy.

Formed in strict accordance with the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Act of 2013 and the Codes of Good Practice that came into force with effect from 1 May 2015, Emperor Foods Manufacturing has been certified as a Level 2 B-BBEE entity with a procurement recognition level of 125%.

Customers using EFM as a preferred supplier are not only guaranteed to benefit from the unrivaled value of the Emperor brand, but will also enhance their own BEE procurement status based on the following allocation of points in terms of their own scorecard:

  • Normal BEE Procurement: 5 Points
  • BEE Procurement from a 51% black-owned entity: 9 Points (additional)
  • BEE Procurement from an entity that has a minimum of 30% of equity owned by a South African black female: 4 Points (additional)
  • BEE Procurement from an Exempt Micro Enterprise: 4 Points (additional)

EFM’s procurement profile thus offers customers a significant B-BBEE procurement ratings benefit with a total of 22 Points available.
